Privacy Policy for Kumo Music

Last Updated: August 2, 2026Entity: Technical Initiative, LLCApp: Kumo Music (tech.benri.kumomusicplayer)

1. Introduction

Kumo Music ("the App") is developed and operated by Technical Initiative, LLC. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring a transparent experience when using our music playback services.

2. Data We Access

To provide its core functionality, Kumo Music connects to a cloud storage provider that you choose and authorize — WebDAV (including self-hosted servers such as Nextcloud, ownCloud, Synology and Seafile), pCloud, Dropbox, or OneDrive. From that provider the App accesses:

  • Your Audio Files (Read-Only): The App requests read-only permission to list and stream the audio files in the folders you select. It never requests write, delete, or sharing permissions.
  • Basic Profile Information: Where your provider supplies it, the App accesses your display name and profile picture solely for personalizing your on-device dashboard.

The App does not connect to Google Drive and does not request any Google API scopes.

3. How We Use Your Data

Technical Initiative, LLC uses the data accessed through your storage provider exclusively for:

  • Indexing audio files (titles, artists, and album art) to display within the App's library.
  • Streaming audio content directly from your storage provider to your device for playback.

4. Data Storage and Security

  • No Server Transfer: Kumo Music is a client-side application. Your files, metadata, and profile information are never uploaded to our servers or any third-party servers. Audio streams directly from your storage provider to your device.
  • Local Storage: Authentication tokens and library indexes are stored locally within the app's protected sandbox on your device. This storage area is isolated from other applications by the operating system.
  • No Tracking: We do not use third-party analytics or tracking software to monitor your listening habits.

5. Third-Party Storage Providers

Kumo Music connects to the storage provider you choose, and your use of that provider is governed by that provider's own privacy policy and terms — not by this one. We receive nothing from your provider beyond what is described in Section 2, and we never share data with it beyond the credentials required to authenticate the connection you authorized. If you connect a self-hosted WebDAV server, your files never reach a third party at all.

6. Sharing of Information

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information or your stored files to outside parties. Your data remains strictly between your device and the storage provider you chose.

7. User Control and Deletion

You may revoke the App's access at any time through the connected-apps or security settings of your storage provider, or by disconnecting the provider inside Kumo Music. For a self-hosted WebDAV server, removing the connection in the App deletes the stored credentials. Revoking access will immediately stop the App's ability to list or play your files.

For detailed information on how to remove all local data and preferences, please visit our Data Deletion Instructions page.
